_RBPMstudio Website Preview

_I spent a day with my photographer this week getting together the first part of the Studios website imagery shot. The work looks great, I'm so pleased with it, here are just a few previews of the first bunch of stuff to be shot.

_Cover Art

_I'm currently having cover 'issues' so went on the hunt for some inspiration, and found these completely glorious examples of the perfect cover art. I hope you enjoy and are as inspired as much as I am.

_My New Favourite Book

_'Some Faggy Gestures' by Henrik Olesen - Strange and beautiful.

'Since the mid-1990s, Berlin-based Danish artist Henrik Olesen has used collage, sculpture and Minimalistic spatial intervention to investigate the social construction of identity and its historiography. Through the appropriation of source images and contextual shifts, Olesen probes the associations between homosexuality and its past and present criminalization.'

Martin, Thank you so much for introducing this book to me, and thank you for such an inspirational day on Friday.

_January Jones

_Possibly the best name ever. January (star of Madmen) is the cover girl, and is looking pretty damn amazing inside, throwing face in the most incredible Marc Jacobs Body suit and Jil Sander Gloves. If you do anoything this month, pick up this issue, not only is the January feature fantastic, but there's also an amazing feature on the New Joe Dallesandro Documovie, for which I have UK premier tickets for - Cannot Wait.

_The Details

_As an avid vase collector myself, these images appeal to me so much. I love how the vase palettes are picked up as accent colours through the room.

_Want Want Want

_Nike Gucci Air Force II's.
Alexander Wang AW08 Studded bag.
And this 'Kids' movie poster are all complete genius.

_Record Beauty

_These 12" Vinyls are simply beautiful, I have no idea who made them, but they are so so good. if anyone out there has any idea who they're by please let me know, then I can re-post them under 'Want Want Want'

_RBPMstudio Preview . . . Quite a Day

_On Tuesday this week, I went to the mountains of Wales to feature on the Channel 4 TV show 'Country House Rescue' with one of the companies I work with. It was an incredible day, The team was fantastic, as was the owner of the jacobean house built in 1610, the decor was crazy, and dark as hell, with the old hanging rooms trap door still in tact, pagan stars cut into most fireplaces and a painting of the dismembered head of madusa over the main drawing room fire place. Anyway, the reason we were there was to deal with her 'wardrode' (shown above), alot of crap, but some absolute pieces of gold dust. Cant say too much right now, but stay tuned to see what happens with the pieces we left this incredible 'Famous5' inspired day ;)

_looking forward to this . . .

_"BUTT magazine presents SUPERGAY!, the bank holigay weekend party where breeders pay and faggots get in free. To celebrate the launch of BUTT No. 27, The “Straight” Issue, we’ve invited 10 homosexualist deejays including über-special guests Justin Case and Open Mike (Pet Shop Bears, Berlin), Macho City deejays Dave Kendrick, Paul Flynn and Charlie Porter, and the ever-amazing Dan Beaumont (Disco Bloodbath). Sunday, August 30th 2009 from 9 PM til 4 AM at Dalston Superstore 117 Kingsland High Street, London."

I'm sorry but the statement "a party where breeders pay and faggots get in free" is possibly one of the bes I've ever read.

_Todays style Inspiration . . .

_As per usual, a bit of tribal, a bit of pop and alot of hair, some heavy wool, traditional stripes and some light stitching details.

_Bag Lady

_These images were released at the end of last week, showing Miss Lilly Allen as the new Face of Chanel Accessories - Complete Genius, and the girl looks brilliant.

_Current Obsession

_Kelis 'I like you'
YouTube it and get happy ;)

_October 1996, One of the best Face magazines ever, Part .III

_A fantastic little feature about a project executed by the then young graduates Jake and Dinos Chapman - Shooting 50 rolls of film of thier lives and then selling off the undeveloped films for £50 a roll. making a statement about ownership in the art world. The Face bought a film and printed the film, so as they say - to clear up, the studio is thier old place just off Brick Lane, the girl is (Jakes then girlfriend) Sam Taylor wood, and, the pissing dick, also belongs to Jake.

_I'm Currently Watching . . .

_One of my favourite films, 'Boys Dont Cry', This 1999 film is based on actual events. Brandon Teena is the popular new guy in a tiny Nebraska town. He hangs out with the guys, drinking, cussing, and bumper surfing, and he charms the young women, who've never met a more sensitive and considerate young man. Life is good for Brandon, now that he's one of the guys and dating hometown beauty Lana. However, he's forgotten to mention one important detail. It's not that he's wanted in another town for GTA and other assorted crimes, but that Brandon Teena was actually born a woman named Teena Brandon. When his best friends make this discovery, Brandon's life is ripped apart

_Grow out

_A great little shot taken by young photographer Brett Lloyd, of one of the models from the Rick Owens AW09 show, I loved the haircuts when they went down the catwalks (a kind of Rennaissance Punk look). But I couldn't however think about what the boys would do with the looks afterwards, other than shave their heads. Evidently the answer is - keep it shaved at the front, and growing out at the back. Genius. And a beautifully elegant shot by Brett.

_Want Want Want

_The 1992 Madonna 'Sex' book, I've wanted it since being about 16, but the heavy price tag has stopped this from happening. The book itself sparked controversy when released on October 24th 1991 (the day of my 7th Birthday) and has done the same ever since. So if anyone finds themselves with a spare £300, this would be greatly appreciated.

_The Selby this week . . .

_The George Tavern, just down the road to my place. Great little pub, owned by a great family, My friends and I discovered it one amazing Halloween about 4 years ago, when they had real pigs heads on spokes either side of the front door - completely genius. Check out all the imagery at www.theselby.com

_Its been a while . . .

_The last 10 days has been pretty mental, from big jobs going to print, big plans for up coming exhibits, big shoots, trips to the welsh mountains, House restoration TV shows (Thats right, more explanation to come), and plenty of meetings and ACE visitors from Brussels. Tonight I'll have a bit of a catch up, then I'll try for it not to be, but it could be a while until my next posting frenzy (this mental work/play schedule carries on for the rest of this month). But, I hope enjoy what I have for you guys tonight, and I'll try to be back soon! ;)

Above is a little poster piece I've been thinking about for a while, with the 'studios' mentality of 'Collate . Simplify . Build'

_Congratulations

_"To artist Terence Koh and his longterm boyfriend Garrick Gott, a very talented graphic designer, who were married last week in one of those private ceremonies ‘for a handful of their closest friends’ that are usually reserved for folks like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Koh wore his mother’s wedding dress, to which he’d added 30 feet of tulle, flying in the face of the custom that the bride must be virginal to wear white. When we asked him via email about what prompted this whirlwind elopement, Koh replied, (in lower case letters, of course), ‘it was a time again to celebrate to make life and our futures more beautiful.’ And how was the Tahitian honeymoon going? ‘i just learnt to top. i guess that’s what marriage is for. change. for fun and love and to celebrate the beauty of life in the face of death.’ We would have happily celebrated with the lovebirds, but alas press were kept out of the affair (a.k.a. we weren’t invited). Even if we couldn’t be there, we’re happy to ooh and ahh over the lovely wedding pictures by Chrissie Miller and Michael Bilsborough, below. We wish them a very long and prosperous future."
