"On Monday, February 16, 1981 I was hired as a temporary chambermaid for three weeks in a Venetian hotel. I was assigned twelve bedrooms on the fourth floor. In the course of my cleaning duties, I examined the personal belongings of the hotel guests and observed through details lives which remained unknown to me. On Friday, March 6 the job came to an end."

_L’Hotel

In 1981, Sophie Calle spent three weeks working as chambermaid in a hotel in Venice. This allowed her to spy on the guests. Like a detective or crime photographer, she photographs the momentarily unoccupied hotel rooms: she photographs the unmade or never slept in beds, the stray items left in bathrooms, the contents of suitcases and closets; she reads letters left lying in the open, takes photographs of the guests, and does even more. Sophie Calle published the photographs within the diary-like report of her ‹observations,› in the book entitled «Ecrit sur l’image. L’Hotel». Calle turns the viewer or reader into an accomplice of her voyeurism – filling them, too, with the urge to move unobserved through another’s private sphere. Like with many of Sophie Calle’s works, photographs and texts exist in a circular self-referring structure: the objects that Calles mentions in the text are found again in the photographs, but their role as evidence is first established through the telling of the story, whose believability lies solely in the hands of the artist.

_Johnson

_A new piece Im currently working on - 'Johnson' a Homo British fanzine, named after both the male body part and the Bruce Weber 'Choy Suey' Muse Peter Johnson. It will launching in the next few months (its packd with collaborators so getting the work in has been a nightmare) But non the less its now coming together, and with all proceeds going to the 'Kieth Haring Foundation' (this year would have been his 50th Birthday) Its looking amazing, and the collaborators (some seen here on the 'current' cover) are unbelievable!

Very excited,
Keep posted for more info.

_Jelous

_I was over at a mates house the other night, and as I walked in, I was overcome with green eyes - He has just gotten one of last season's Raf Eastpack collab backpacks - not only is the grey oversizing pure genius, but he's hung it on his lounge wall like a huge piece of sculptural art.

Lovely.

_AnotherMan

_I found this ace shoot while sorting through my magazines the other night (see lower blogpost as to how they turned out). Such a nice shoot - the graininess is great, its definately inspired me to go back to shooting on cross processed black and white slide film. The styling's great aswell with old style huge Mugler and Yamamoto shapes mixed with Petri style leggings and studded Mui Mui army boots.

_Warhol Suitcase

_If anyone has a spare couple of hundred pounds kicking around - I'd love this for my birthday next month. It's just such a nice format, and the books inside are lovely, from stock and layout to colour and sizing (the original Interview size).

Man, I love this magazine,
Here's hoping this months relaunch does the 'old style' justice.

_Comme Packaging

_I use 'Man2' everyday and it just makes me smile everytime I pick it up, the bottle is so pleasing in everyway - from colour and size to weight and shape. And the initial Vac-Pack packaging is pure genius.

_A Big Thank You

_To Mr Ric Bell, who upon moving this weekend supplied me with yet more needed storage for my ever increasing magazie collections - this saved a 4' pile from the end of my bed. So cheers mate, they look ace.

_The 'PJ'

_So talking of 'Butt' reminded me of seeing Fashion Director of 'Fantastic Man' Jodie on Sunday eve, and then I remebered this shoot of his - possibly one of my favourite menswear shoots ever. Due mainly to my addiction for 'lounge wear' - think over sized jersey sweats and Adam Kimmel 'play suits' - this shoot gave me all that and more, from Raf sneakers to Tom Ford dressing gowns, Westwood knits to helmut Lang cotton basics - Perfect in everyway.

_Sunday Evening

_So Sunday evening saw the finale of the London based 'Butt Beer Bust's' and it was a brilliant (if very, very drunken) night, lots of cute boys, plenty of lager on tap, and most importantly - the launch of this seasons 'sexed up' issue, By Monday morning the free issues where damp with beer, but a great 'read' non the less.

_Another Thing I Really Cant Wait For...

_'Four of Bruce Weber's finest films, Let's Get Lost, Chop Suey, A Letter To True and Broken Noses (available only as part of this release), are brought together in one highly collectable box set that also features a vast amount of extras including a number of Weber's short films, behind the scenes footage and exclusive photography.

Released Autumn 2008'

After spending the last few months viewing each of these movies on the big screens across London's Art House cinemas, the boxset is finally released at the end of next month, and and pre-order went in last night - ACE.

_The Birth of Cool

_Great book, released last year, but only just made it onto my bookcase:

'1950s West Coast style exuded "cool" from the smooth, hypnotic strains of a Miles Davis riff; Richard Neutra's elegant, modernist residences; the hard-edged paintings of Helen Lundeberg and Karl Benjamin. This richly illustrated volume casts a fresh eye on Fifties West Coast style with illuminating commentary from a variety of perspectives. Designed to echo the period it celebrates, this catalogue explores modernist innovations in art, architecture, design, film and music. Prominent cultural critics write on an array of topics - Thomas Hine about the culture of cool; Elizabeth Smith on domestic aspects of the period's architecture; Francis Colpitt on hard-edged abstract painting; Dave Hickey on jazz; Bruce Jenkins on the crossover between animation and experimental film. The result is a multi-faceted exploration of the 1950s West Coast zeitgeist in all its colour, creativity, and cool.'

_US contemporary kitsch

_So last night I was watching one of my favourite crappy movies of all time - 'The Birdcage' and it just reminded me how ace 1950's Miami kitsch interior styling is, then I was sent the top image by a friend today, designed by the studio 'Esteban Salgado Design' its just ace US kitsch, and envokes everything you want Berevley Hills to be, from glamour to 90210 - ACE.

_Mariki

_Lovely piece of light installation by the small interdisciplinary graphic design studio Mariki, who are based in London.

_Vogue Hommes Japan Launches

_Its all so nice. And this is hardly any of it - its good to see a menswear magazine thats actual inspiring mensWEAR rather than good looking guys pointlessly showing off thier packages in 'new season D2squared/Galliano briefs'

_Vogue Hommes Japan - Snap

_A few weeks ago i went to a fancy dress party fairly narcissitically as Jesus.
This week the new Vogue Hommes launched in Japan.
Spot the difference.

_'Goddess'

_QUICK LOOK, Im mentioning another photographer to Mert and Marcus! - Inez van Lamsweerde styled Vinoodh Matadin, Same model as usual though, Kate, looking stunning, for 'W' magazine, I especially like the strange top 'drowning' image.

_NeoMan

_Sorry about this - Yes, another Mert & Marcus shoot, for 'POP' possibly my favourite of thiers ever - cant think of one single thing i dont like about it, especially the first two and last shots - AMazing

_I wanna go . . .

_To Africa. If nothing else, for styling tips.
