_Kevin Amato

_For Bronx-based , Kevin Amato , photography documents his life. His fascination with people and their lifestyles. I adore the stark realness of his photographs, it evokes that L.I.E and BULLY aesthetic, with a pile of cute bronx boys thrown for good measure. Amato explains his style as 'how youth culture and street fashion inspire both mainstream culture and high fashion.' His work has been featured in Dazed & Confused, Flaunt, Trace & Interview Magazine.

_Typographica

_Typographica is the first exhibition of the eponymous graphic design journal. Groundbreaking when first published in 1949 and now considered legendary, Typographica showcased the very best in worldwide visual arts. The journal was founded by a 25 year-old Herbert Spencer, who went on to become one of the most influential British communication designers and typographers. Typographica’s pioneering content included concrete poetry, avant-garde type experiments and photo-documentary, all highlighting Spencer’s ability to fuse images and words in meaningful new relationships, and featured the work of, among many others, Dieter Rot, Robert Brownjohn and Alexander Rodchenko. In its production the journals stand as a high-water mark for mid-20th century publishing– their use of contrasting papers, multiple textured stocks, gatefolds and varied printing processes served to showcase the capabilities of the publishers, Lund Humphries, as well as Spencer’s imagination.

_Dover Street Purfume

_Rei Kawakubo's cult London department store announces the release of its Eau de Toilette available in 100ml bottles from mid September. Known as the 'coolest shop in London', Dover Street Market as a lifestyle boutique has long been stocking a selection of perfumes and finally is to launch its own perfume in celebration of its fifth anniversary.

The perfume is an unusually modern construction of a classic woody fragrance for both Men and Women. At a concentration of 8 per cent, the head consists of bergamot, mandarin, black pepper, whilst at the heart of the scent is coriander, incense, juniper berry over a base of cedarwood, labdanum ciste, patchouli, and pine essence.
The monochromatic packaging is inside out, printed, whilst the minimalist bottle displays the DSM logo sideways, both as designed by Comme des Garçons' founder, Rei Kawakubo.

The scent will be launching at Dover Street Market, London on September 10th, 2009 and will be available worldwide from around mid September at all Comme des Garçons shops and other selected shops, corners and shelves.

_RBPMStudio Label Fetish

_Here at the studio it would be quite the understatement to say we have a 'thing' for labels, and luckily one of the studio's clients stocks some of the most perfect examples of 20th century fashion labels. Those completely beautiful snippets of well designed, graphic, embroidered branding that have been tucked inside elegant garments for decades, whether still the same, or re-designed with time (see YSL) they are eternal memoirs fashion's glamorous past.

Check back for more snaps of our favourites in the next few weeks.

_RBPMstudio Preview . . . Quite a Day II

_A few weeks back, I went to the mountains of Wales to feature on the Channel 4 TV show 'Country House Rescue' with one of the companies I work with. It was an incredible day, The team was fantastic, as was the owner of the jacobean house built in 1610, the decor was crazy, and dark as hell, with the old hanging rooms trap door still in tact, pagan stars cut into most fireplaces and a painting of the dismembered head of madusa over the main drawing room fire place. Above are a few shots from our 'Famous 5' inspired day out.

_Phono-graphy

_A great new little blog by photographer Errol Rainey - "All of these pictures are taken with my phone, I edit the images on the phone, I then upload straight to here, the pics don't touch the computer. Get me?"

_Old Work, before the studio

_I found this great little disposable image this afternoon from a shoot I did at the begining of last summer with the great model Ronx - at this point she had just had balloons filled with powder paint exploded over her. I miss those days when I could devote an entire week to doing a project a just 'fancied' doing.

_Dream Home

_The Ansley Park, Glass House, USA
The Ansley Glass House is located in an historic downtown neighborhood, with a mature tree canopy and direct views to the immediate city skyline. The project replaces a series of additions to a 1910-era house with a new glass-lined living space including a garage, kitchen, family room, library, and a new stair linking three levels. The structure is capped with an occupiable roof deck surrounded by glass guardrails and clerestories, offering diagonal sightlines up to the midtown skyscrapers beyond and into the living spaces below.

The clients expressed a strong desire to have their domestic spaces perceptually lodged in the out-of-doors, and to have the visceral presence of the city skyline both night and day. The interior spaces are arranged as a series of split-levels, each spiraling around a new central stair. The stair, with no visible stringers, is suspended from adjacent and overhead structure, and uppermost rooms are cantilevered and suspended over lower ones. This spatial arrangement is in stark contrast to the historic front half of the residence, creating a dialogue of space types. The use of glass curtain-walls as a cladding material establishes a permeable boundary between the house and its immediate context, provides for light and views, and materially engages the glass skyscrapers visible on the immediate horizon. This combination—offset and cantilevered interior spaces viewable through a transparent exterior cladding—proposes a residential experience which is both spatially and visually suspended within the very close context.
