_New in my Bookcase
_'Acid Drop'
With this series, Aperture presents five of the most promising artists featured on tinyvices.com, the popular online gallery founded by independent curator and photographer Tim Barber. Presented in five separate volumes, and limited to 1,000 copies per edition, the series reflects the loose spirit of the website and offers a range of styles and approaches to photography- This one is Kenneth Cappello's casual snapshots of the skate scene of his youth.
_'So Far, So Goude'
Jean-Paul Goude's creative talents have been stunning the fashion world for over thirty years. "So Far, So Goude" is the definitive collection of his extraordinarily innovative and unorthodox work. More than 350 colour illustrations trace his life and career, including his time as art director at Esquire; his revolutionary work with Grace Jones on "Jungle Fever"; his videos for MTV; his advertising work for Chanel and Cacharel; and his role as director of 1989's Bicentennial Parade in Paris.
_'Zero: Hans Schleger, a Life of Design'
Hans Schleger was a key figure in the history of graphic design. He pioneered the concept of corporate identity and his work has been hugely influential for subsequent generations of designers. Born in Germany into a Jewish family at the end of the 19th century, Schleger began his career in Berlin working for a film company called Hagenbeck, for whom he designed publicity material and some of the film sets. In 1924 he went to New York and was one of a handful of European emigre artists and designers who brought the "Modernist" approach to American advertising. Returning to Berlin in 1929, he worked for the English advertising agency, Crawfords, as Art Director, emigrating to England after Hitler came to power. He worked in London until his death in 1976. This comprehensive survey of his work includes drawing, painting and photography, as well as the graphic-design work for which he was best known: posters, symbols, advertising and corporate design and packaging.
_'The Pet Shop Boys Catalogue'
Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of their first album and coinciding with a major world tour, Pet Shop Boys, Catalogue is a lavish visual retrospective of Neil Tennant and Chris Loweâs entire career. Every aspect of their work is featured: all the elegantly designed sleeve artwork and packaging; stills and behind-the-scenes shots from every video, film, concert and theatre show; experimental stage sets and cutting-edge fashion and costume designs; collaborations; publications; and ephemera. A visual feast of art, music and design.
